The 1st XI Football team capped off a fine season by becoming Barnet League Champions last week and narrowly missing out on a League and Cup Double. The team faced St James’ school in the League Final play-off, a team who had beaten them 5-1 earlier in the season. EBS rose to the challenge on the day and put in a performance worthy of champions. Alidad Afkham-Ebrahimi settled team nerves with an early goal, lobbing the opposition goalkeeper from 30 yards out. The boys continued to dominate the game and created a number of further chances to increase their lead. However, It was not until early in the second half that Josh Barry added a second from close range and Cieran Ward curled in a third from the edge of the penalty area. Victory was sealed by captain Alex Hadji when he thumped in a free kick from 40 yards out, straight into the top corner… a definite goal of the season contender! A late consolation goal for St James made the final score 4-1. Five days later, the same squad of players faced a talented Finchley Catholic team in the Barnet Schools Cup Final. Despite a determined and committed performance from the boys, Finchley were just too good on the day and finished 4-1 winners. Congratulations to all members of the 1st XI squad on a fantastic and successful season.
