Dear Parents/Carers of Year 9,
I am writing to let you know that the decision I took to close the school for students in Year 9 until Friday 20th March was not an easy one, but due to Boris Johnson’s announcement yesterday afternoon we have a significant number of staff who need to self-isolate.
The students must remain at home during the day, as if they were at school. This is a national response and it is incredibly important that we all play our part. As you will be aware young people are not really affected by the virus, elderly people and those with pre-existing conditions are and it is our duty to consider the wider community in our efforts.
The students will be expected to complete work by following their daily timetable. All work will be set on Skooler, with links to Hegarty Maths, MathsWatch, Kerboodle or SENECA. Students are expected to complete the work on the same day and ‘virtually hand’ it in.
Teachers will be setting work everyday, and all students have a reading book and should aim to do a minimum of 20 minutes reading per day.
The school website also has lots of links to additional website and resources
Computer Access and Free School Meals
If you do not have a computer or internet access, please do not worry we have been working with the children to identify who this affects and today staff members will be dropping work and laptops home to those students who need them.
In addition, if your child is in receipt of Free School Meals, a member of East Barnet Staff will be visiting homes today to drop off a Sainsbury’s Voucher which should pay for school lunches this week.
If your child does not know their log in details or needs support with Skooler, please do not worry. We have a dedicated team to support you with technical issues.
