Why do we use Fronter at East Barnet School?

The Fronter VLE is a way that teachers and students can keep in touch with each other all the time. Fronter is a web-based Virtual Learning Environment so that students can access the site from any computer that has internet access. Fronter is a virtual building, structured into rooms. Each room is equipped with the tools required to empower the collaboration and learning activity in that room. The teacher invites members and assigns rights according to each student’s role in the room. We call this the collaborative working environment (CWE), as it combines tools for e-portfolio, personal work and learning (PLE), learning management (LMS), collaboration and knowledge management (KM) . This is why we use fronter. It brings everything and everyone together.

What can students do with Fronter?

  • Create their own e-portfolio.
  • Hand-in work and have it assessed.
  • Learn at a their own pace whenever and wherever they like.
  • Communicate with teachers and peers.
  • Work on thier own or as part of a group.
  • Access Individual Learning Plans, and a lot more….

Is Fronter easy to use?

Fronter is equipped with a very simple interface design. Students simply log in, find their teaching room, and within that room they will be able to see and navigate to resources, useful links, debates, tests, forums, hand in folders and even quick links – setup by the teacher to direct to specific folders or topics. Teachers also use it to host exemplar work, and even full on courses and modules they can even create using Fronter’s tools and all this helps students in and outside school.
