One of the aims of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 is that public authorities, including all maintained schools, should be clear and proactive about the information they will make public. It also outlines details about how individuals can make a request for information from public bodies.
Some information we hold may not be appropriate to be public, for example personal information. Our Freedom Information Publication Scheme conforms to the model scheme for schools approved by the Information Commissioner’s Office and covers all teh regulations. Under the Act, any person has a legal right to ask for access to information held by the school. They are entitled to be told whether the school holds the information, and to receive a copy, subject to certain exemptions. While the Act assumes openness, it recognises that certain information is sensitive. There are exemptions to protect this information.
Freedom of Information requests must be made in writing, (including email), and should include the enquirer’s name, correspondence address (email addresses are allowed), and state what information they require.
Our policies are under constant review. While we endeavour to maintain up-to-date downloads, there is inevitably a short delay in publishing files to our website. You are advised to check with the school for the latest versions if required.
Some of our policies may be in ‘Draft’ format, which means the policy has been approved by the relevant Governing Committee and is just waiting to be ratified by the Full Governing Body (FGB). As there are only a few FGB meetings every year, we publish draft policies when they are approved by committees, as to not delay the policy cycles. On occasion, emergency amendments are also necessary, and these too are referenced as draft policies.
