Black History Month 2023

East Barnet School > Alumni > Black History Month 2023

The theme of BHM this year was ‘Saluting Our Sisters’ and students were able to learn about key historical women from the past and present in assemblies as well as reading the posters on every door of the school of eminent sisters of colour.

In addition we celebrated some of our Black Alumni with posters detailing their achievements so far.

We ran a few other events across the school, including:

  • From Monday 9th October, students were able to take part in a competition that involved the BHM posters and finding out information about the women.
  • In KS3 English, students were introduced to the BHM poetry competition and supported in writing their own poems for submission. English teachers collected the students’ poems and a select small group were shared across the school.
  • The Kitchen produced an amazing menu to celebrate the month and students were able to sample new dishes just before half term.
