At KS5 we offer an A-Level in Further Mathematics and students study the Edexcel A-Level specification. Students will study all three areas below and will be assessed by examinations at the end of Year 12 and the end of Year 13 for the A-Level.
Core Pure Mathematics 1 and 2
Complex numbers, further algebra and functions, further calculus, polar coordinates, hyperbolic functions, differential equations, proof, matrices, vectors.
Further Mechanics 1
Momentum and impulse, work and energy, elastic strings and springs, elastic collision in one and two dimensions.
Decision Mathematics 1
Algorithms, graphs and networks, route inspections, linear programming and critical path analysis.
Decision Maths is a new area of mathematics for students to study. Mechanics requires students to develop many of the concepts from A-Level Mathematics and take them to a deeper level of understanding and application. The pure element of the A-Level blends new areas of study with developing concepts from the Mathematics A-Level.
